What we do in your Local Services account

There's no ad copy in Local Services, because Google builds your ad from your profile and your reviews. So our work is keeping that profile true and checking every lead you pay for.

Google charges you for a lead, not a click, and it credits back on its own a lead it finds low quality, repeated or invalid.

Your part is the phone, because 84% of Local Services leads on our home service accounts came in as phone calls. You answer calls live and call missed ones back, and our speed to lead guide has a callback routine any shop can run.

We're a small team in Conway, Arkansas, and we've run Google Ads since May 2016. We work with home service businesses across the US by phone and video, so your town doesn't need to be near ours.

  • Profile: we build it with every job you're licensed for, your area, your hours and real photos of your work, because Google ranks you on all of it.
  • Papers: we send Google your license and insurance files and flag each one 45 days before it expires, since 71% of the files Google turned down on our accounts had expired.
  • Bids and budget: we set your bids and adjust them as leads come in. You choose the weekly cap, and we watch your spend against it.
  • Leads: our system rates every lead you pay for at Google. A person on our team checks the unclear ones while there's still time to ask for a credit.
  • Your numbers: our system adds your charged leads to a Google Sheet we share with you, and your portal shows your leads, what you paid and your cost per lead.

How Google ranks your ad

Google runs an auction that weighs your bid and your profile, and most of what makes a profile strong is work your shop already does. That means picking up the phone, getting reviews and keeping your details right.

Google's help pages name the inputs, starting with your bid and the odds your ad brings a lead. Those odds take in how fast you answer and what the person searched for. Google also weighs your star rating, your review count, your average reply time, your photos and the checks you passed. Google says a stronger profile can place higher and cost less per lead.

Google says missed calls can pull your rank down. Its own report counts a call as connected only when it runs past 30 seconds, and it scores your answering over the last 90 days. 20% of phone leads on our home service accounts ended in under 30 seconds or never connected at all. When a caller's first try went unanswered or ran that short, 91% of them didn't call again through the ad within 7 days.

Reviews count twice in that list, once for your star rating and once for how many reviews you have. Google won't show the ad at all in some trades until a profile has 5 reviews, so we mark any profile under 5 as a risk.

Messages count too, since Google says fast replies kept up over time can lift your rank and a message lead tends to cost less than a phone lead. On our home service accounts, 19% of message leads came in before 8 a.m., after 5 p.m. or on a weekend. So we keep messages on, and you answer every text fast, even to say you don't do that job.

Photos have one trap, because Google turns down any photo that shows a phone number, even one on a truck, a shirt or a shop sign. Job types carry a trap too, because Google no longer credits a lead for a job you don't do or a place you don't serve. So we turn on every job you're licensed for, and none you aren't.

Our Local Services Ads guide covers setup and ranking step by step for owners who want to run it themselves.

Every lead you pay for gets a rating

You have 30 days from a lead to ask Google for a credit, and most weeks nobody in a busy shop gets to the list. Our system reads your charged leads every day and rates each one by a written rule.

Google charges for a call you answer, a voicemail, a message or a booking. It also charges for a missed call in your open hours when the caller holds on for more than 20 seconds. More calls or texts from a customer you've paid for cost nothing while you stay in touch within 15 days.

Google also checks each lead for 30 days, and it credits a low quality, repeated or invalid lead on its own. Google didn't charge for 23% of Local Services leads on our home service accounts. A rating is how you ask for money back on a lead Google did charge.

  • If Google charged the same phone number on your account in the last 30 days, we rate the new lead right away as Dissatisfied and pick Duplicate.
  • We rate a lead Very satisfied and pick Booked customer as soon as it turns into a paid job, because that tells Google to send you more leads like it.
  • A call under 30 seconds, a text nobody answered or a lead with no call goes to a person on our team. They listen to the call or read the texts, then pick the rating before the 30 days run out.
  • Good calls wait until the 30 days pass, because Google keeps one rating per lead and a good rating sent early ends that lead's chance at a credit.
  • We stop rating at two months, since the oldest lead Google took a rating on from us was 58 days old.
  • Google makes the final call on every credit, and a credit shows up later on your balance, not on the day of the call.

What it costs

Open Spots Local is $997 every 4 weeks, plus a $1,997 build paid once, or $0 on the 13-cycle plan. What Google charges for your leads is separate from our fee, and you set the weekly cap on it.

We pay Google and take last week's exact charges from your business bank each Monday, up to the weekly cap you set. We add nothing on top.

Google sets each lead's price by your area, the job and how the person reaches you, so a plumber and a home inspector pay very different amounts. Google suggests a budget big enough for at least 10 leads a week on its automatic bidding. We talk through your weekly cap with that number in mind, and you choose it.

We bill every 4 weeks, so a year is 13 bills. Cycle to cycle: you pay the build and keep the 30-Day Stop. You can cancel at the end of any bill. The 13-cycle plan: the build is $0 today, and you sign up for 13 cycles, one every 4 weeks. There's no 30-Day Stop. If you stop before your 13th cycle, the build you skipped goes on your last bill. Every price we charge is on our pricing page.

Open Spots Local carries our Lead Guarantee: A set number of Local Services leads, in trades and states that have a number. Your proposal prints the number for your trade and state, and what happens if you fall short.

In our spring 2026 study, all four Local Services accounts paid less per lead than the Search and Performance Max ads we ran in that window. One home inspection account ran Local Services and Search side by side for 90 days, and its Local Services leads cost $19.28 each against $134.59 for a Search lead. That's one account and 11 Search leads, so read it as a direction and not a rule for every trade, and our Local Services vs Google Ads study has the rest. Search still reaches the high-value jobs Local Services can't name, and Open Spots Search can run one Google Search campaign beside it.

Local Services is moving into Google Ads

Google began moving Local Services campaigns into Google Ads in August 2026, one business at a time. You still pay only for leads, and your ad still shows on Google Search and Google Maps.

Google picks each business's date and emails the admin named on the profile 14 days ahead, then sends a reminder 7 days later. Google started with some U.S. plumbing, HVAC, roofing and moving businesses, and it moves wider groups in late 2026 and the rest in 2027.

Your areas, job types, budget, ad schedule and photos carry over on their own, and so does your Google Verified badge. Past leads, texts and call recordings move to a new Leads page, but Google's old reports on views, clicks and weekly spend stay behind. Our system keeps its own daily copy of your leads and cost, and your portal reads from it, so your history stays in one place.

Budgets work differently after the move, because Google turns your weekly budget into a daily one by dividing it by 7. A month can't cost more than that daily amount times 30.4. Set-your-own-price bids end too, so you can't name the most you'd pay for one lead anymore.

Google says to allow up to two weeks after the move for results to settle. Our system reads your leads every day, so a quiet stretch gets a look while it's still small.

Your first weeks

Questions

How much does LSA management cost?

Open Spots Local is $997 every 4 weeks, plus a $1,997 build paid once, or $0 on the 13-cycle plan. Your leads cost what Google charges, up to the weekly cap you set. We add nothing on top.

Do I pay for a missed Local Services call?

Sometimes. Google charges for a missed call in your business hours when the caller holds on for more than 20 seconds. It also charges for a call you answer, a voicemail, a message or a booking. So list only the hours someone can answer, and call back every missed call fast.

Can I get money back for a bad Local Services lead?

Google checks each lead for 30 days, and it credits a low quality, repeated or invalid lead on its own. For the rest, you have 30 days from the lead to rate it and ask for a credit. Our system does that every day on the accounts we run, and Google makes the final call on each one.

Should I run Local Services Ads or Google Search ads?

Start with Local Services if Google lists your trade where you work, because you pay per lead instead of per click. One home inspection account ran both for 90 days in spring 2026, and its Local Services leads cost $19.28 each against $134.59 for a Search lead. That's one account and 11 Search leads, so read it as a direction and not a rule for every trade. Search reaches the jobs Local Services can't name, like one high-value service you want more of.

What if Google won't approve my business for Local Services?

Then we switch you to our Search plan. You don't pay a new setup, and your Local setup covers your first two Search bills.

Who owns the Local Services account?

The Google account is in your business name. We build and manage it. If we ever part ways, you keep the account and the call data.
