What we run for heating and cooling shops

We run Google Search ads and Local Services Ads for HVAC companies, and we set up call tracking before an ad goes live. Your portal lists every call and form, with how long each call ran and the ad behind it.

We build your keywords as broad match, because people describe a broken AC in more ways than anyone can list. Google says 15% of the searches it gets each day use wording it has never seen before. On our accounts, 49% of the searches that got a click in the 30 days to Oct 11, 2026 hadn't shown an ad even once in the 30 days before.

So we let broad match find the new wording, and we block the junk with negative keywords every week. We don't block a search after one click, because 84% of the searches on our accounts that got a click and no lead over 30 days got exactly one click. We look for words that repeat and costs that add up before we block anything.

We're a small team in Conway, Arkansas, and we've run Google Ads since May 2016. We work with home service businesses across the US by phone and video, so your town doesn't need to be near ours.

  • Search ads: we write ads for the jobs you want more of, like a new system, a repair or a tune-up, and point each one at the page that fits it best. Open Spots Search runs one Search campaign, and we build your landing page and call tracking.
  • Local Services Ads: we build your profile with every job you're licensed for, your service area and your hours, and you pay per lead instead of per click. Open Spots Local runs these.
  • Tracking: we track each call and form back to the ad and the search behind it, so your portal lists every lead with the time it came in and what it cost.
  • Waste: we read your search terms every week and block the ones that never turn into work. Searches for HVAC jobs, HVAC school, parts or how-to help are the kind we look for.
  • Both at once: Growth runs Search and Local Services together, plus Microsoft, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, on one budget, and you get your own advocate.

Your ads follow the seasons

ENERGY STAR tells homeowners to check the cooling system in the spring and the heating system in the fall, because contractors get busy once summer and winter come. So your ads talk about repairs when the weather turns, and about tune-ups in the months between.

In a heat wave or a cold snap, people search for help right now. Your ads in those weeks name the problem they have, like an AC blowing warm air or a furnace that won't start, and say how soon you can come. You choose the weekly cap, so set it before the season turns, not in the middle of a rush.

In spring and fall, the same campaign moves to tune-ups and check-ups. Homeowners are told to book them in those months, and a tune-up is work you can put on the calendar weeks ahead.

Slow months are real. On three of our home service clients' websites, Google search visits in each site's slowest month ran 54% below that site's own monthly average. Each site's slowest month fell in a different season, so we read your own calls and visits before we plan your year.

A yearly maintenance plan puts booked work in those months. Offer one plan at the end of every job, book the first visit into your slowest month, and text a reminder a week before. Harvard Business Review reported that an auto service chain earned 30% more profit after it cut the customers it lost by 5%. A plan member already has your number, so they don't need to search Google for anyone.

What a good HVAC ad says

A good ad answers the search in the words the person typed, then says how soon you can come. We write one for each job you want, and each ad points to the page that fits it best.

Answer every call like it's the job

84% of Local Services leads on our home service accounts came in as phone calls. When nobody answered a caller's first call or it ran under 30 seconds, 91% of those callers didn't call again through the ad within 7 days.

So your portal shows the missed calls and the short ones, not just the total. 20% of Local Services phone leads on our home service accounts never became a call of 30 seconds or more, and each of those is a person to call back today, from the business line, so they know it's you.

Speed decides a lot of these jobs, and Harvard Business Review researchers measured it in real sales leads. Companies that reached a new lead in the first hour were close to 7 times more likely to talk with the person who decides than companies that waited an hour or more. Our speed to lead guide has a callback routine any shop can run.

Many callers open with “How much for a new AC?” Give a range, name the one or two things that move it, and offer two times to come look. People who hire you write about speed more than price, since 29% of the reviews with words on our home service clients' profiles mention speed, and only 11% mention price at all.

Most leads come in during working hours: 95% of Local Services leads on our home service accounts came Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm, and Monday alone brought 23% of them. Put your best phone person on Mondays, and keep a backup phone ready when the techs are in an attic.

Local Services Ads for HVAC

Local Services Ads charge you for a lead, not a click, and every call or message goes to you alone. HVAC was in the first group of trades Google began moving into Google Ads in August 2026.

Google ranks your ad on your bid and your profile. It weighs how fast you answer, what the person searched for, your star rating, your review count, your reply time, your photos and the checks you passed. So we turn on every job you're licensed for and none you aren't, send Google your license and insurance papers, and warn you before one expires.

Google charges for a call you answer, a voicemail, a message or a booking. It also charges for a missed call in your open hours when the caller holds on for more than 20 seconds, so list only the hours someone picks up. For 30 days after a lead, Google keeps checking it and credits a low quality, repeated or invalid lead on its own. Google didn't charge for 23% of Local Services leads on our home service accounts.

For the rest, you have 30 days from a lead to rate it and ask for a credit. Our system rates every lead you pay for, and a person on our team checks the unclear ones while there's still time. Google makes the final call on every credit.

The move into Google Ads changes how the budget works. Google turns your weekly budget into a daily one by dividing it by 7, and set-your-own-price bids end. Our system reads your leads every day, so a quiet stretch after the switch gets a look while it's still small. Our Local Services Ads management page has the full routine.

Questions

How much does an HVAC marketing agency cost?

Ours starts at $497 every 4 weeks for Open Spots Search, plus a $997 setup paid once, or $0 on the 13-cycle plan. Open Spots Local, for Local Services Ads, is $997 every 4 weeks plus a $1,997 build. Your ad spend is separate, and you set the weekly cap.

Should an HVAC company run Local Services Ads or Google Search ads?

Start with Local Services if Google offers HVAC where you work, because you pay per lead instead of per click. One home inspection account ran both for 90 days in spring 2026, and its Local Services leads cost $19.28 each against $134.59 for a Search lead. That's one account in another trade, so read it as a direction and not a rule. Search reaches the jobs you want more of, like a new system, and our [Local Services vs Google Ads study](/blog/lsa-vs-google-ads/) has the rest.

Should I turn my ads off in the slow season?

We'd read your calls by the week before you decide. On our paid accounts from July to September 2026, 37% of days with ad spend brought zero conversions, but only 4% of full weeks did. Contractors get busy once summer and winter come, so ENERGY STAR tells homeowners to book check-ups in spring and fall. Those are the months we point your ads at tune-ups and plans. You choose the weekly cap either way.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. Stop anytime in your first 30 days, and the fee never starts. You can cancel anytime. Service runs through the end of the bill you're in, and then it stops. The 13-cycle plan has no 30-Day Stop.

Do you work with HVAC companies outside Arkansas?

Yes. We work with businesses across the US by phone and video. Google offers Local Services trade by trade and place by place, so we check your area before you spend any time on it.

Who owns the Google Ads account?

On Open Spots Search: It's your own Google Ads account, set up under our manager account. The ad account and its call data are yours either way. On Open Spots Local and Growth: The Google account is in your business name. We build and manage it. If we ever part ways, you keep the account and the call data.
